Strong retail figures continue under Majority Liberal Government

Great news with Tasmanian retail figures toping $500 million as we count 19 straight months of positive retail trade

The Hodgman Liberal Government made a commitment to the Tasmanian people to turn the State’s finances around, create jobs, and make Tasmania a great place to invest and do business.

We have stuck to our Plan, and we have returned the budget to surplus, seen over 10,600 jobs created, and the latest Sensis Business Index confirms Tasmania has recorded the strongest confidence among small and medium businesses in the nation in a decade.

A re-elected majority Hodgman Liberal Government will continue to take Tasmania to the next level.

Statistics released by the ABS today confirm that December was the 19th consecutive month where retail turnover has topped $500 million.

The nominal value of retail trade in Tasmania was estimated to be $522.6 million in trend terms for the month of December 2017. This is up 0.2 per cent when compared with the previous month, and up 2.8 per cent from the same month in the previous year.

A re-elected Hodgman Liberal Government will continue to make Tasmania a great place to conduct business, work, and raise a family.

With the new Payroll tax threshold/rate gives a saving to all businesses with payrolls up to $2 million, Tasmania will have the most competitive State payroll tax regime for businesses with payrolls under $4 million.
