Wynyard Men Get Talking

Wynyard men are tackling men’s health issues head on with a series of workshops just for men.

Organised by local Wynyard identity Sparra Webber and Wynyard Baptist Church Pastor Owen Muskett, the Man2Man events have attracted over 100 men to each of the four events held so far.

Each event has one or more guest speaker, and attendees are encouraged to come early to share a barbecue dinner before sitting down to listen and share stories. Topics have included depression and mental illness, suicide and prostate cancer – issues men don’t typically talk much about but have a greater chance of surviving if they do.

Braddon Liberal member Roger Jaensch is a huge supporter of the Man2Man initiative.

“They worked out that men would be better off if they talked more about these things, so booked a room and made it happen.

“In the long run, I think this sort of activity will save lives in our community, if it hasn’t already,” Roger said.

Man2Man have recently been given the use of an 8-seater bus with wheelchair access, so they can pick up people who would like to attend but can’t without specialised transport.

The Man2Man events are held at the Railway Institute Hall, Station Street, Wynyard, so check with Sparra Webber on 0418 343 267 for the next scheduled meeting and anyone wanting to use the bus to come to the meetings can make those arrangements with Sparra also.
